Penrith History Conference

One of several speakers at this conference in Penrith on Saturday 14th March 2015, I will be delivering a Powerpoint presentation  entitled George Henry Cox of Mudgee and Mulgoa. A prominent figure in nineteenth century State politics, George Henry Cox was born in 1826 and died in 1901, serving as an MLA and MLC in a length of parliamentary service which I believe has not been equalled. A son of Mulgoa and Mudgee pioneer George Cox and a grandson of roadbuilder William Cox. George Henry played a pivotal role in the development of the Mudgee district. He was also a pioneer settler of Mount Wilson in the Blue Mountains where he 'rusticated' in the summer months. However, he remained very much attached to the area of his birth, and Winbourn(e) at Mulgoa was his favourite residence.
