RAHS conference in Mudgee

On Friday 17th and Saturday 18th April 2015 the Royal Australian Historical Society will hold a regional conference in Mudgee at the Mudgee Library. I will be one of several speakers during the conference, delivering a Powerpoint presentation entitled: Archduke Franz Ferdinand's Visit to Australia.

Few people would be aware that such a significant person in world history, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este, whose assassination contributed to the outbreak of World War I, visited New South Wales in 1893. Of great interest locally is the fact that he travelled to the Central West regions of Narromine and Nyngan on a hunting expedition. In this presentation I will examine Franz Ferdinand's tragic family background, his Australian tour in detail, and his rebellious later life which involved a royal love story. Find out more about this intriguing, intensely private man who has been misrepresented and underestimated.
